Welcome back! We hope that everyone had a fun and relaxing summer. The staff members at Neilson Grove were back in school on Thursday and we are very excited to kick off the 2018-2019 school year.
General Info: Tuesday, September 4, 2018, is the first day of school. Because of the uncertain nature of enrolment for September, students will start the year by returning to the same class they attended during the 2017-2018 school year for the first few days. This will give students and teachers an opportunity to reconnect with classmates. You will not need your school supplies today. We will arrange the new classes as quickly as possible once our enrolment is determined.
If you have registered but are new to Neilson Grove: please check in at the office on Tuesday before 9:00 AM. We will then welcome you in the library, you will get a tour of the school, and then be placed into a temporary class.
Tuesday, September 4, 2018 – Welcome Back!
The PAC will have coffee and treats offered to parents at the school entrance at 8:30am
Kindergarten: (9-9:45 AM) – All students (with their parents) will attend an Open House with Mrs. Schofield (room 139) and Mrs. Drinnan (room 122). There will be a short ‘meet and greet’ and school tour with members of the PAC and Mrs. Palmer afterwards.
Grade 1: (9AM – 12 Noon) – Follow the signs and line up outside of the Multi Purpose Room with last year’s classmates. Ms. Bryson will take attendance and give you more instructions.
Grade 3: (taught by Mr. Mathieson last year) – Follow the signs and line up outside of the Gymnasium. Mr. Bourgeois and Ms. Steed will take attendance and give you more instructions.
Grades 2-7: (9AM – 12 Noon) – Students line up at last year’s classroom door and return to last year’s teacher for morning instructions and the important task of determining our enrolment.
*DISMISSAL TIME IS 12:00 NOON. THERE WILL BE NO AFTERNOON CLASSES*

Kindergarten: Parents have received info with specific scheduling info. Students are split into Group A (8:47 – 9:32 AM) and Group B (10:00 – 10:45 AM) on Wednesday and Thursday.
Grades 1-7: Meet in the morning at your classroom door (the same one you exited on Tuesday afternoon). Neilson Grove will resume the normal schedule with the normal bell times.
First Bell: 8:47 AM Recess: 10:35 – 10:50 AM Lunch 12:00-1 PM Dismissal: 3:00 PM
Absentees: If your child is going to be absent, please call and leave a message on the school answering machine (604-940-4468). The answering machine is available 24 hours a day. To ensure that our opening day enrolment figures reflect student attendance as accurately as possible, please leave a message on the school answering machine or send a note with a neighbour if your child will be absent on the first day or two in September.
New Registrations for September: Families arriving over the summer and wishing to attend Neilson Grove Elementary may register with Ms. Fraser at the school office. The Delta School District does not guarantee that students registered in late spring or early fall will be able to attend their neighbourhood school, but they do guarantee a place in the nearest possible school.
Parking and Traffic: You may have noticed the City of Delta Engineering department has been very busy this month. We have a new pedestrian controlled crosswalk with flashing lights and everything! Thank you to the parents who worked hard to advocate for the safety of our students and to make this happen. Please remember to slow down to keep everyone safe as many of our students and families walk, bike, skateboard or scooter to school. There is an adult crossing guard stationed at Admiral Way and River Road, as well as student crossing guards at the crosswalk in front of our school. If you do need to drive in/drop off, please do so early and park away from the school and have your child walk in.
