Head lice are very common and easy to check for. It has nothing to do with the cleanliness of the environment, but they are spread by head-to-head contact which can sometimes happen at school.
If we do see nits or adult lice in your child’s hair, we will inform you by phone and a letter home. We send letters home with students in the same classroom and ask their parents to do a check. We will also send letters home with siblings and their classrooms, just in case. Head lice are not a health hazard and students will not be kept out of school while they are being treated.
Fraser Health has some handy info: https://www.fraserhealth.ca/health-topics-a-to-z/school-health/illness-and-immunizations/head-lice#.Xefp2vR6rqs
There are YouTube videos available that show how to do lice checks with the recommended wet combing method (wet combing hair in sections with a metal lice comb). Regular checks and early treatments keep lice from spreading. Thank you for helping us keep lice out of the school.
